Some occurrences in life will carve a huge hole in our lives. I realised that these last few months have been hard, and the coming ones will be harder, but I am sharing here a story of how I cope with my fears, regrets, success and most importantly nurturing my wounded soul.
So, before I go on, I would like to express my gratitude to all those who have helped me in my difficult time and continue to be my constant support. I can never thank you enough 😊
Though this year has been more than terrible so far, I would like to share with you something that always calm me and help me deal with difficult situations. Growing up it was my constant friend as I was always alone not because I was ignored but because I loved to spend time by myself and I continue to do so till now. This constant friend started as a radio, graduated to music channels on television, moved to CDs and now the internet. I have always loved music though I am tone deaf and I don’t play any musical instrument; I love music in any genre. I can never understand heavy metal or EDM; though I have tried giving them a listen, but I just can’t seem to connect :P
I am not a critic nor an expert, but music is a language I can’t neither explain nor speak! So to say :P
For me, music is like a drug. (please don’t take it literally, ok?)
My playlist is a mix of everything from Pop to Folk music to anything that I can relate to at any given moment. I am most drawn to artists from the ‘70s & ‘80s. The current artists that I listen to are few and far between. I prefer not to listen to anything new unless it is suggested by close friends or Spotify :P Being a digital marketer, I am only thankful to AI for the machine understands me better than most humans when it comes to choosing my music. It’s almost not true. :P
I also listen to music from languages that I don’t understand at all. I have been in the K-Pop stage like many who are into it now, but it didn’t quite gel with me. Currently, I am stuck with Filipino songs. Sometimes I wonder if I would have found my ability to appreciate different artists if it wasn’t for the internet. It is definitely an enabler. Don’t you think?
When you go through certain circumstances in life, sometimes you go back to your favourite artists or better yet, the breakup songs. I know quite a few of my friends who rely on breakup songs even when they are in a peppy mood 😊
Individually we will have different relations with music. As for me it is my go-to pill and potion that can heal the deepest, sharpest wounds even though the time taken to mend will depend on how you allow it to affect you. So far it has been the chicken soup to my soul.
Just like the song, “Let the music heal your soul”.
Music is a unique healer altogether!
